Watch Out For Online Dating Scams
Tuesday, 7th July, 2009

Online dating becomes more popular each day, with millions of singles logging on each day and spending billions of dollars every year! Now, con artists have taken notice and want to cash in, too. Everyday, online dating scammers make $3000 off of single women and men that they’ve tricked into sending them money.  For every success story you hear about someone finding love online, there are at least a few who have some horror stories to tell. You can avoid being one of these victims, if you just keep your eyes peeled for some tell-tale signs.

The most obvioust thing to watch out for is any mention of money. No normal person would ask someone they’ve never met for money. They will use many excuses. A sick parent or an eviction notice will suffice as a plausible cause to send money, and since they’ve played on your heartstrings, they feel that they can get the money out of you by appealing to your sympathy. Another tactic they use is asking for money for airfare to come see you, with no actual intentions of making the trip. But, don’t fall for it. As soon as the issue of money is raised, be on guard.

Pay close attention to their user photo. Many scammers use photos of models or very attractive individuals that they’ve pasted from other websites or magazines. Alternately, they’ll steal a photo from another person in order to seem authentic. If the photo seems too good to be true, it probably is. Listen to your gut, if something doesn’t seem right.

Also, scammers can be characterized by their enthusiastic curiosity. While they refuse to offer up any details about themselves, they will continually ask your questions about you and your life. This may create an alluring mysteriousness in some cases, but be on the lookout if your match is unwilling to share any of their own life stories.

Finally, look out for inconsistencies in their communication patterns. When you are emailing back and forth, you may notice a change in their writing style, font detail and even language. It is very possible that the person you’re speaking with may be more than one person.

Plenty of Fish Owner Searches Opens Paid Dating Site
Tuesday, 23rd June, 2009

Earlier this year, Markus Frind – owner of the free online dating site PlentyofFish, com -- announced that he was searching for a site on which to build a new dating network. He has recently set his eyes on OnlineDating.org, and talks have begun between Frind and the site’s owner. His new site will come as big change to existing Plenty of Fish users; it will require users to pay.

When Frind created Plenty of Fish in 2003, he was tired of seeing faceless dating corporations prey on individuals who were simply looking for love. His mission was to establish a free online dating site that put the customer before the company. In just over 5 years, Plenty of Fish has already earned itself a reputation as one of the most popular dating sites on the web, with a Top Ten ranking in Canada, the US and the UK. All this time, Frind has decided to keep his site free, vowing to make a difference for others rather than a profit for himself.

However, Frind has recently discovered that he’s losing out on huge profits and has decided to cash in. Recently, he mentioned that since Plenty of Fish linked users to competitor sites, he was giving up millions of dollars in possible revenue. He decided that the only option was to obtain a paid dating site or make his own. The result of his decision may now be Frind’s merger with or buyout of OnlineDating.org.

Searching for the Best Online Dating Website
Tuesday, 23rd June, 2009

There are several ways to find exactly what you are looking for on the web. When it comes to online dating sometimes people don’t know exactly what they are looking for but what many don’t realise is that finding the best online dating site for them may actually help them in finding the best match. Here are a few tips on finding the online dating website that will best work to suit your needs:

Search for exactly what you are looking for: Before signing up for a dating website you should research the type of site that you want. Visit online search engines and type the terms that you are looking for. For example, if you are looking for a specific religion perhaps type “catholic online dating”. If you are looking for same sex online dating type “gay/lesbian online dating”. This way the results will be geared to your needs and wants.

Find out about costs and fees: If you are okay with paying for a dating site, research sites that charge a rate, remember to make sure you know what type of agreement you are looking into, whether it be long or short term and what the cancellation procedure is. If you are looking for a free site, search for that exactly and make sure there are no hidden fees or costs associated with it.

Once you have found the site that is right for you all that is left is to find your perfect match. Remember to look at profiles closely and read about people rather than just browsing through the photos. Online dating can be a very fun and enjoyable process! So don’t wait, get started today!

The Right to See a Photo
Thursday, 18th June, 2009

There are a few things that go hand in hand when it comes to internet dating. The internet dating websites that currently exist have taught us that we must have certain expectations for what we are required to know about the person that we will potentially meet up with and now they have become the standard.

One of the most important variables to a successful meeting happens to be a photo. Not to say that the world has become completely superficial but looks seem to be at least somewhat important, especially in the beginning stages of getting to know someone.

One person that we were speaking to the other day made a very good point. He said “ would you approach someone at a bar or a pub or any public place if you didn’t find them in the least bit physically attractive?” No probably not, so the same goes to setting up a meeting with a complete stranger over the web. I

f you have had conversation online via email and perhaps even over the phone with the person then the only fair thing to do before meeting them seems to be sending over a photo. If you are planning to meet them anyway then what’s the harm in giving them a little sneak peak into who they are looking for in person?

So the truth of the matter is, people that are dating online have come to believe that they deserve to see a photo before meeting someone, so next time you are asked for one, no need to read between the lines, simply know that this has become the industry standard.

Some Truths About Online Dating Companies
Tuesday, 16th June, 2009

There are certainly some truths about online dating companies that the companies themselves don’t quite wear on their sleeves for all the public to know and see. And while these common misconceptions won’t be life changing (for the most part), it is still a good idea to keep your feet on the ground and not to get caught up in all the flowery things that you may see on TV.

Sometimes advertisements on TV and on the web appear much more positive than they actually are: Yes of course there are relationships that turn into happy marriages. But there are also those that don’t turn out that way.

Online Dating services always tend to promote their successes (as do most other businesses) so you have to take everything with a slight grain of salt and consider reality. Yes you may get lucky and meet your happily ever after but you may also have to kiss a few frogs to get there. T

here are also the personality tests that claim to match people together based on their true inner behaviors. May this work sometimes? Yes it may but sometimes you want to be with someone that isn’t your exact match and so there are quite a few people that they service is leaving out by offering these pre-screeners – so remember to look out for profiles of those that don’t exactly match up but may be a great match in the long run.

All in all online dating sites do try to bring some good into your life but are still trying to operate a business while making these love connections so if you are willing to take your love life online than you are going to have to watch out for a few cautions here and there as well!

What Makes Online Dating So Popular
Thursday, 11th June, 2009

There are lots of different ways people can find dates these days. You can call a phone and chat with singles in your area, you can go to a singles mixer event at a restaurant or club, you can even go speed dating and get 10 dates in one night! But the most popular form of dating today has to be online – and there are lots of reasons why this medium connects millions of singles around the world.

First, it’s just so convenient! Like anything else available online it’s ridiculously easy to get access too. Our generation can get everything they want from a click of their mouse or even a push of a few buttons on their cell phones. You can check your online dating messages at home, on the train, in your car, even maybe at work (if you can get away with it!).

Another great reason for the popularity of online dating is the anonymity it provides. We have all been nervous about meeting someone face-to-face or have had to sit through a blind date or two. But when you date online you have some amount of control over who you can see, who can see you and who you choose to talk to – and this can be very comforting for anyone who is even the littlest bit shy.

Finally, the best thing about online dating is the fact that you can weed through all the profiles you want before even sending an instant message or email! Online dating services will even sort through them for you. They’ll read through your profile, ask you some questions and pick singles that are just like you. Then all you have to do is read through them and, if you like what you see, contact the person.

Great Ways to End a Date
Tuesday, 2nd June, 2009

Good date, bad date, either way it has to end at some point. But how you would like it to end and how you go about taking the next steps (or not) depends on what you say and do at the end of the first date.

If you’re on a horrible date or you just haven’t felt that connection it’s best to be polite, ride it out until your earliest chance to leave appears. Unless it’s the most disastrous date in history, don’t just jump up mid-conversation and give some lame excuse and leave. Either way you cut it, no one wants to feel dumped on the spot. If you really can’t bear the thought of continuing the date, wait for a suitable time to make your exit, say, when dinner is over.

Again, be polite, tell the other person you’ve had a good time but unfortunately you haven’t felt a connection. If you’re on a great date and you want to book another one, express to the other person what a great time you’re having and see if they echo that feeling. This will help you test out the waters to see if asking for a second date is warranted. If you’ve found something in common like art galleries, bring up a new exhibit you’re dying to see and suggest you go together!

If you’re already at the end of the date and you feel you could land another date, be brave and just asked! It may be a bit scary but it’s the only way to ensure that second date. A casual “I had a great time, I’d love to go out again if you’re up for it” is simple and effective but also offers the other person a chance to voice their feelings. Above all, just be honest – remember there is a difference between honestly and bluntness. You may need to sugar coat it if you’ve just been on the worst date ever, but there is no point in pretending or lying about your time together. Honesty is key, and trust me, your date will appreciate it!

Getting Ready for a First Date
Thursday, 14th May, 2009

The process of getting ready both physically and emotionally for a first date can be a very stressful thing. No matter whether you were set up on a blind date, whether you met the person through an online dating site or if you have been friends for a long time and now are deciding to date each other, the first date can make or break the relationship.

A few things to consider when preparing for the date; do not over do it! We can’t stress enough how important it is to just be yourself. Now that’s not to say that you shouldn’t put on a little make-up, you should dress nice and smell nice, but there is absolutely no reason to put on a ball gown unless that’s part of your daily attire. If you set the bar too, too high you won’t be able to keep up with yourself for the second date.

With regards to preparing your mindset for the date, think about conversation topics, things you would like to discuss, consider some questions that you may want to ask the person, think about things you may want to reveal about yourself. But keep in mind that you would like to be interesting the next time and the time after that as well so don’t give up all your secrets on the first date.

Most importantly, stay true to yourself. If you keep with who you are and what you are really like in a day-to-day situation you will have absolutely no problem. Leave the nerves at the door and hope for the best because after all, you can prepare all you like but if its not meant to be there is little chance that it will be.

  Dating Do’s And Don’ts
Tuesday, 5th May, 2009

If you are looking for a list of things to keep you on the right path during the first few meetings or first dates that you will be having with that great person you met through an online dating service you have come to the right place.

Continue to read on for some great tips and pointers of things you should and probably should not be doing in order to keep the significant other interested and wanting to see you yet again after the first encounter and beyond.

Firstly, try to be yourself, there is a certain comfort over computer communication that allows you to feel great in your own shoes, however, once you meet in person that comfort is automatically removed because you are not sitting in your own home anymore. People tend to put on a show or another persona when they meet but remember the person likes you for who you were online so if you continue to be that way chances are you will be off to a great start.

Always remember to keep it fairly light. Do not get into too many deep conversations about either of your pasts (apart from telling them about your criminal record if you have one). Keep it nice, discuss hobbies, things you like and other common interests you may have. No need to take about what your previous relationship had or didn’t have.

Here is a great guide to follow- if you would feel even slightly uncomfortable saying what you are going to say or if you second guess yourself then its better not to mention that thought just yet. Basically, if you wouldn’t tell something to a complete stranger in a line up, keep it for another time when you really get to know this person.
