Singles Lifestyle Overrated

Is the Singles Lifestyle Overrated?  (By Emily member)

The media shapes our view of culture in a large wayand at the current moment in time, the singles lifestyle has beenglorified by the media. No matter where you look, there are storiesabout partying till you can’t see straight and shirking responsibility, but there are few stories about growing up, maturing and then findingthat special someone to spend the rest of your life with. Dating is animportant part of the singles lifestyle for many people that want toget out of being single and for these people, the singles lifestyle haseither lost its charm, or become overrated. Dating life and ultimatelymarried life carries with it a number of advantages that the singleslifestyle does not have.

Financial Security

Since most of the people in the modern era now workfor their living, financial security is one of the biggest things thatcome with married life. With two incomes to subsist on instead of oneincome, the family unit is usually better poised to deal with a rockyroad financially since two points of income have to fail simultaneouslyfor the income flow to stop altogether.

Emotional Security

If you have ever left home for the first time and hadsomething bad happen to you within the first few months of leaving yourfamily and friends behind, you might understand how single people canbe emotionally isolated from each other even if they happen to befriends. Emotional security is a big aspect of today’s world, especially with the emotional effects that recessions can have. Forthat reason, married couples once again tend to trump singles becausethey have the ability to provide the emotional security of family thathelps people deal with problems they might have.

Married couples often have opportunities that singlepeople never have. The idea of settling down and starting a family isone that implies stability and reliability, two factors that employersabsolutely love. This is why married couples often get promotions aswell as better mortgage rates, because various businesses feel betterabout investing in them than they do about investing in single peoplethat still might not be tied down and ready for a long term commitment. It may not seem fair to you if you are single, but there are statisticsthat back such decisions up.

The above article has dealt with advantages inherentto married or long term dating couples over singles. There is nothingabout the advantages inherent to single life because most of those(i.e. freedom and less responsibility) are already known to most peoplecourtesy of a media culture that glorifies the experiences that singlepeople have the freedom to have. Ultimately, it is up to you which setof advantages you feel suits you the best. In spite of that, one thingis clear and that is that single life and married life both have theirgood points and therefore single life does not always trump marriedlife. Therefore, single life can be overrated at times.

Singles and Free Online Dating

Singles and shift to free online dating.

One of the biggest trends as far as the singlescommunity is concerned in the modern day is the shift to free onlinedating. If you are a single person that thinks about dating on a fairlyfrequent basis, chances are that you are already aware of thisparticular trend. It comes about because of a confluence between thelower cost of online dating, the higher convenience of online datingand the current recessionary times that are forcing single people tocut back on their conventional dating expenses. People also appreciatebeing able to talk at length with people online and get to know thembefore going on an actual physical date because it allows them todevelop a more meaningful relationship before taking the plunge. If youare a single person that is interested in online dating, below are somestrategies that you can pursue.

Strategy #1: The mass appeal approach

This is perhaps the most innovative approach withFree online dating and it is one that a number of people like to try.The basic point of this approach is to contact as many people aspossible and then quickly narrow the field down based on initialcontact made with those people. The mass appeal approach is the onlineequivalent of speed dating, except different profiles on differentpeople give you the chance to really individualize your experiences andtherefore carry on much deeper communicative associations with peoplethan you would be able to with a speed dating service. The mass appealapproach is a real novelty the first time it is carried out, but themain downside is that not finding anyone once the narrowing downprocess is complete can be a really demoralizing event. For thisreason, caution is still required even when the mass appeal approach isemployed.

Strategy #2: The picky approach

The picky approach is essentially the opposite of themass appeal approach. Instead of adding a bunch of people to your listof prospective dates, you create a list that is quite small. The mainidea here is to find people that you really think you can get alongwith and that you find attractive in order to contact just those peopleand try to form some deep connections through communication. This is agreat way to do things within singles communities, especially forintroverted people that tend not to do well when they are forced tomeet a large number of strangers over a relatively small period of time.

Whether you choose the mass appeal approach, thepicky approach or something in between, singles have a great number ofoptions at their disposal where online dating is concerned. The doorsof opportunity have been opened wide as a result of online dating andsingles are ending up finding love in places they never thoughtpossible as a result of this excellent developed service. If you are asingle person, now is definitely the time to give a free dating site atry.

Places to go on a Free Date

Places to go on a free date

So the hard part is over and you’ve landed yourself afirst date!  Now the question arises where should the two you go?  Toomany people rely on the boring dinner and a movie cliché that almostguarantees disaster.  In these tough economic times people may not havea lot of money to plan an elaborate first date.  I was left ponderingthe question, “Is there anyway two people can have a good and fun freedate?”  The answer to this question is a resounding yes!  It ispossible to have a quality time on a budget.  The following list ishardly comprehensive, but it is a start to help you start thinkingabout ways to put together good free dates.

1. Know the area.  There are a lot of cool landmarks, museums, and historical locations in the world, and chances are yourarea has at least a few of its own.  Look around for museums that havefree admission.  Museums and historical landmarks are great for a fewreasons. First, if the conversation lulls there is always something totalk about it.  If nothing else you can talk about the art work on thewall of the museum or the placard of historical information at ahistoric location.  Many people do not take time out of their busyschedules to really get to know the area they live in.  So doing yourresearch can pay off!  In fact, it will look like you were trying to becreative!  There is no reason your date should ever have to know youwere trying to save money.

2. The use-up-my-cupboard picnic — Go out for apicnic and create the menu out of things that you already have in yourcupboard.  There is nothing less romantic than a picnic even if all youserve is sandwiches, chips, and a cheap bottled drink.  Try having thepicnic at night so that you can lay back and gaze up at the stars.

3. Go for a nature walk.  If you area has a localhiking spot, and your date is not too afraid of the outdoors, why nottry a nice hike.  It is a great opportunity to get to know one anotherbetter while enjoying the innate beauty of nature.

4. Free concerts.  There are tons of bars and pubsand even universities that put on free concerts all the time.  Keepyour eye open.  Whether your date likes grunge punk rock or classicalmusic you should be able to find a place that offers the style of musicthat you are looking for.

5. Open mic nights.  A lot of coffee shops offer openmic nights on everything from poetry jams to stand-up comedy.  Sincethe performers are amateurs there is usually little or no admission.

The most important thing about setting up the perfectfree date is to be creative.  The sky is the limit when it comes tothis.  Even if the date flops, I guarantee the person will appreciatethat you put some thought into the date, and that you had a plan.  Iwish you the best of luck on your next free date!
